Job Description

The Binghamton City School District is seeking candidates to fill the anticipated Committee on Preschool Special Education Chairperson position for the 2024-2025 school year with an effective start date on or about September 2, 2024. These are full-time, probationary tenure-track positions.

Job Qualifications

Preferred NYSED  Certification.

BCSD Committee on Preschool Education

The CPSE Chairperson reports to and works closely with the Elementary Director of Special Services CPSE & K-5. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities listed may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Attend chairperson training.
  • Implements and maintains procedures for the CPSE process to ensure we are meeting procedural guidelines per NYSED. 
  • Process referrals and contact agencies, providers, and district staff to assign evaluations. Ensures that all students referred to the CPSE receive the necessary evaluations.
  • Schedule, arrange, and conduct CPSE meetings and communicate with parents, staff, and agencies regarding CPSE meetings and recommendations. 
  • Develop IEPs with the CPSE. 
  • Assist agencies and district providers with coordinating services to meet service recommendations. 
  • Work cooperatively with parents, district staff, administration, and outside agencies. 
  • Keeps informed of all NYS laws and regulations about special education services for preschool students with a disability and ensures district compliance. 
  • Facilitates special education data collection and confirms data accuracy for district, federal, and state reporting.

 

The Committee on Preschool Education Chairperson must have the ability to:

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret a wide variety of data and evaluations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form. 
  • Maintain effective time management skills and dependability in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
