The Binghamton City School District seeks candidates to fill various anticipated Clerical positions for the 2026–2027 school year. These are full-time positions.

This is routine work involving responsibility for the performance of a variety of clerical tasks, including the full-time or substantial part-time operation of a computer and computer applications. The work is performed according to defined procedures with detailed instructions provided for new or unusual assignments. The work is performed under direct supervision. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities:
- Greets and assists staff and visitors
- Daily use of computers and applications
- Answer and respond to phone calls and other inquiries,
- Makes appointments and gives out routine information
- Type/prepare letters and other documents;
- Receives, opens, stamps, and distributes mail
- Check reports and records for clerical accuracy, completeness, and proper extension;
- Works on special projects, maintains files on donors and contributions, prepares bulletins and brochures, and assists special committees with meeting arrangements;
- Sorts, indexes, and files letters, reports, invoices, ledger cards, catalogs, and other materials;
- Makes entries on control cards or in the ledger from sources;
- Makes arithmetical computations and compiles elementary statistical reports;
- Makes file searches and pulls materials from files;
- Maintains a variety of computerized and manual records, files, and department databases;
- Maintains inventory of supplies and materials;
- Performs record-keeping and general clerical functions;
- Types of reports, bulletins, schedules, notices, meeting minutes, agendas, employee/student reports, and other materials;
- Prepares requisitions, purchase orders, and checks invoices;
- Types and maintains time records, payroll data, status changes, and transfers;
- May collect fees, rents, bills, and taxes, account for monies collected, make journal and ledger entries, cash in, and make bank deposits;
- Maintains petty cash funds
Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to type at an acceptable rate of speed; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to get along well with others; ability to write legibly; clerical aptitude; neatness; accuracy; tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
- Job Qualifications
To be considered for this opening, applicants must be:

- Currently, on the Civil Service eligible list for the title, or
- Currently appointed to the title, or
- Eligible to take the exam for the title when it becomes available
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
a) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, including or supplemented by a course in typing; or
b) One year of clerical experience, which included typing in a professional and/or school-based setting; or
c) An equivalent combination of training and experience within the limits of (a) and (b
