  POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:  Woodrow Wilson Elementary School Principal

Qualifications:  New York State Certification School Administration and Supervision (SAS) or School Building Leader (SBL)

Preferred:          

    • A minimum of three years of experience as a successful building leader
    • Current knowledge of Best Practices and NYSED Standards and Assessment
    • Completions of AAPR Lead Evaluator training
    • Documented record of improving student achievement
    • Ability to engage a diverse community and familiarity with supporting Culturally Responsive teaching and learning

Reports to:

                Superintendent of Schools

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate student personnel services, including implementation of a positive and productive educational climate in which student learning flourishes. 
  2. Develop a Master Schedule that supports high quality instruction while meeting the social and emotional needs of students.
  3. Supervise activities of the Assistant Principals relating to the planning, organizing, and operation of special services, such as attendance, counseling, psychological services, and testing.
  4. Actively participates in the recruitment of staff and their assignments.
  5. Conduct classroom observations in accordance with APPR guidelines.
  6. Supervise and evaluate all staff employees. 
  7. Keep abreast of developments of elementary school issues by participating in regional, state, and local meetings.
  8. Provide leadership for the planning, development and implementation of elementary school curriculum and evaluation of instructional programs.
  9. Utilize the DDI process to improve student achievement and analyze data to inform curriculum and instruction.
  10. Work collaboratively with parents/guardians and community members to increase understanding and support for the school.
  11. Work collaboratively with staff to encourage professional growth.
  12. Develop high quality staff development programs.
  13. Provide input into the development of the building budget.
  14. Ensure that safety procedures and emergency plans are up-to-date and adhere to the district’s policy on conducting drills.
  15. Maintain an efficient and effective facility, adhering to health and safety standards.
  16. Maintain an inventory of school property and equipment.
  17. Ensure all required reports and mandates are met per board, local and state requirements.
  18. Plan, organize and supervise recognition programs for school activities.
  19. Demonstrate leadership skills that will encourage students and staff to achieve at high levels.

 

Personal Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including a sense of humor, ability to inspire, sensitivity to concerns of others, enthusiasm, dependability, integrity, openness for change, and the desire to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and community.
  2. Demonstrate support for school programs through high visibility at school and community functions and events.

               

Terms of Employment:  Salary - Category II. is established by the Binghamton Administrative and Supervisory Association Contract.

Evaluation:  Annual performance evaluation conducted by the Superintendent of Schools

Anticipated Assistant Principals2526-29

The Binghamton City School District is seeking candidates to fill the Anticipated Assistant Principal positions for Middle School (2) and High School School (1) for the 2025-2026 school year.

  POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:  ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Qualifications:          

NYS School District Administrator (SDA) or

NYS School Administrator Supervisor (SAS) or

NYS School Building Leader (SBL)

Preferred:                

  • A minimum of five years of successful experience in elementary or secondary education including teaching.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Current knowledge of Common Core Learning Standards, student assessments, and Annual Professional Performance Review.

Reports to:  Assistant Superintendent for Administration or an Assistant Superintendent assigned by the Superintendent and Building Principal.

Performance Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school and serve as the principal in the absence of the regular principal.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of school practices in all areas as a member of the administrative team.
  • Assist in the interpretation of school and district programs, policies and procedures to students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Develop and implement policies to effect positive student behavior in the school and provide guidance and counseling to students, parents, and teachers on issues relating to student behavior and attendance.
  • Collaborate with social workers, counselors, nurses, and teachers in areas of pupil personnel services, including student attendance, and, when necessary, make appropriate referrals for testing, guidance or psychological services.
  • Assist in the supervision of staff and students within the school, and oversee disciplinary procedures, and associated record keeping.
  • Work with community and government agencies on school related matters.
  • Participate in the coordination, implementation, and supervision of co-curricular activities.
  • Assist the principal in compiling the annual budget, conducting inventories, maintaining records, and checking on receipts for such material.
  • Supervise the registration, scheduling, testing and management of student data.
  • Share with the principal the responsibility for protecting the health and welfare of students and staff.
  • Conduct safety inspections and safety drill activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of student master schedules.
  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of student and teacher handbooks.
  • Provide building instructional leadership and program leadership.
  • Observe and evaluate teachers and supervise/evaluate support staff.
  • Participate on District committees.
  • Other duties as assigned by the building principal, Assistant Superintendent for Administration or the Superintendent of Schools.

Terms of Employment:  210 Days.  Salary, Category I, is established by the Binghamton Administrative and Supervisory Association Contract.

Evaluation:   Annual performance evaluation conducted by an Assistant Superintendent

           assigned by the Superintendent of Schools
