School Vehicle Operator- Job Description

Distinguishing Features of the Class: This is work involving the use of motor equipment in transporting food, school equipment, and supplies in a school system. The work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established procedures. May be called upon to perform snow plowing, snow removal, and salting of walks and parking lots. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Loads and delivers food to various district buildings
  • Picks up and delivers communication boxes, equipment, furniture, audio-visual equipment, and films to various schools and institutions within the City system and to locations outside the City limits
  • Loads and transports supplies. Food, paper products, and materials to central storage and to the several school sites
  • Acts as a courier in transporting mail and messages, collecting school lunch monies, making bank deposits
  • Assists in and/or takes stock inventory of food supplies and paper products
  • Assists in preparing special lunches and transports food to where it is needed

The minimum wage will be changing to $14.20 per hour effective January 1st

Job Description

This work involves the responsibility of performing routine cleaning duties in public and municipal buildings and facilities. On occasion, the incumbent may perform minor maintenance tasks or assist skilled employees in the repair and maintenance of building equipment and furniture. The work is generally performed in accordance with prescribed schedules and procedures under the general supervision of a higher-level maintenance supervisor or under special circumstances of an agency administrator. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

Performs a variety of building maintenance and cleaning work such as sweeping and moping floors, waxing and buffing floors, vacuuming rugs, dusting furniture, washing walls and windows, and cleaning elevators and stairwells;

  • Performs specialized cleaning tasks varying with the agency's needs;
  • Replenishes toilet supplies such as tissue and soap;
  • Empties wastebasket and collects and disposes of trash;
  • Clear snow and ice and sand and salts sidewalks;
  • Performs a variety of odd jobs such as delivering messages, calling trades persons to repair equipment, erecting directional barriers, and related unskilled tasks.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Personal Characteristics:

Working knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and supplies used in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings, furniture, and facilities; ability to get along well with others; ability to follow simple oral and written directions; thoroughness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
