Applications are now being accepted for various Clerical openings throughout the district. Positions range from 10-month to 12-month positions. Please see the descriptions below.

10- month - (7.5 Hours per Day/215 days per year)

12-month - (7.5 Hours per Day/260 days per year)

 

In order to be considered for this opening, applicants must be:

    • Currently on the Civil Service eligible list for the title, or central
    • Currently appointed to the title, or
    • Eligible to take the exam for the title when it becomes available

Position Description

The clerical work involving responsibility for the performance of a variety of clerical tasks involving the full-time operation of a computer. The work may require a general understanding of specific law and organizational rules, procedures, and policies. The work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established routines. Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate clerical employees. 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Types of correspondence, memorandum, and statement form copy, rough draft or oral presentations.
  • Works on special projects such as annual employee picnics and award dinners.
  • Types, processes, reviews, and files requisitions, vouchers, time sheets, bills and receipts.
  • Works independently on projects such as processing accounts payable, maintaining records on capitol equipment purchases, dealing with vendors on incomplete, unfilled, or incorrect charges, preparing corrections on purchase orders or computer data, civil service and employment records and procedures.
  • Types, issues, and maintains a record of applications, permits, and licenses.
  • Maintains computerized filing and indexing systems.
  • Maintains personnel records and prepares payroll adjustments
  • Types, processes, reviews, and files a variety of control and operational records and reports.
  • Answers the telephone to arrange appointments or to answer routine questions.
  • Maintains a record or ledger of salaries, purchases, and contractual expenditures.
  • May assign, train, and review the work performed by subordinate clerical employees and prepares work schedules.
  • May instruct employees in the specialized clerical work of the organization.

Per Contract
Building Maintenance Mechanic2425-60

The Binghamton City School District is seeking candidates to fill the Building Maintenance Mechanic position for the 2024-2025 school year with an immediate effective start date.

The duties of this position involve performing a variety of skilled building maintenance and repair work. The incumbent is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing a variety of electrical equipment in district facilities. Under certain conditions, the incumbent may supervise the work of Building Maintenance Helpers, Cleaners and Laborers. The incumbent of this position works under the general supervision of a higher maintenance supervisor. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Installs, maintains, and replaces electric switches, outlets, light fixtures, electric fans, electric motors and circuit breakers
  • Installs, maintains, and replaces all types of plumbing lines, soil pipes and fixtures
  • Assists plumbers in the installation and replacement of heating pipes and boiler parts in hot water and circulation pump, boiler feeder pump and vacuum pump
  • Diagnoses and repairs minor problems in gas and electric appliances
  • Maintains and repairs gas and oil-fired furnaces and hot water heaters
  • Takes pressure and fuel readings for oil and gas steam boilers, assists in cleaning boiler tubes
  • Performs routine building maintenance cleaning work
  • Performs snow plowing, snow removal and salting of walks and parking lots
  • Performs paint work
  • Performs tasks such as paperhanging, patching and sheet rocking
  • Performs concrete repair work on steps and walks
  • Lays and replaces the floors
  • Performs mechanical repair and maintenance work on small tractors and snow blowers
  • Makes periodic inspections of facilities
  • May supervise Building Maintenance Helpers and Laborers in performance of their duties

Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

  • Good knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and tools used in the plumbing trade
  • Good knowledge of the operation of all pumps, especially the hot water circulation, boiler feeder pump and vacuum pump
  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, tools and safety precautions used in the electrical trade along with minor troubleshooting procedures
  • Good knowledge of building maintenance cleaning techniques

Job Description

This is routine work in preparing and serving food and in cleaning of kitchen equipment. The incumbent is expected to perform all duties needed in the support of a food service program. The work is performed under the immediate supervision of either the Cook Manager or form the Food Service Supervisor at the respective building. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Serves food on a cafeteria line
  • Performs tasks to prepare food to be cooked
  • May operate some cooking machinery including mixers, stoves, and ovens under the direct supervision
  • Washes dishes and pots and other utensils either by hand or by machine
  • Sweeps, mops, and cleans all kitchen work areas and storage areas
  • May act as a cashier in the cafeteria
  • Cleans tables in the cafeteria
  • Collects and empties trash containers
  • Works on production line filling meal orders
  • Delivers trays, returns empty carts and trays to the kitchen
  • Assists in the preparation of salads and desserts

Job Description

This work involves the responsibility for the performance of routine cleaning duties in public and municipal buildings and facilities. On occasion, the incumbent may perform minor maintenance tasks or assist skilled employees in the repair and maintenance of building equipment and furniture. The work is generally performed in accordance with prescribed schedules and procedures under the general supervision of a higher-level maintenance supervisor or under special circumstances of an agency administrator. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

Performs a variety of building maintenance and cleaning work such as sweeping and moping floors, waxing and buffing floors, vacuuming rugs, dusting furniture, washing walls and windows, and cleaning elevators and stairwells;

  • Performs specialized cleaning tasks varying with the agency's needs;
  • Replenishes toilet supplies such as tissue and soap;
  • Empties wastebasket and collects and disposes of trash;
  • Clear snow and ice and sand and salts sidewalks;
  • Performs a variety of odd jobs such as delivering messages, calling trades persons to repair equipment, erecting directional barriers, and related unskilled tasks.

Job Description

This position involves the performance of duties in assisting and in support of the instructional and educational process for children. The work differs from School Monitor in that the incumbents are selected primarily to provide instruction to children whereas the School Monitors are more concerned with disciplinary and behavior situations. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a classroom Teacher. Supervision is normally exercised over students usually on a one-on-one basis. Does related work as required. May elect to monitor during the lunch period.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Helps to set up reading and math laboratory equipment
  • Performs limited review of student work
  • Helps in the technical preparation and production of teaching program
  • Proctors and otherwise helps to conduct examinations
  • May assist Teachers in the correction of test papers, recording grades, maintaining files and preparing statistical reports
  • May be required to work closely with individual children on specific learning problems such as spelling, punctuations and grammar
  • May be required to give close supervision to children in special classes
  • May monitor students during the lunch period
