District School Safety Monitor | 2425-79 | Letters of Interest and applications are now being accepted for the following positions in the Binghamton City School District for the 2024-2025 school year: DISTRICT SCHOOL SAFETY MONITOR Workday/year School Safety Monitors are contracted at 7.5 hours per day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch and two 10-minute breaks (1 – am; and 1 - pm). The work year is 215 days. School Safety report two weeks before the start of the school year. The year ends June 30th. Start and dismissal times: Elementary: 7:15 am - 3:15 pm Middle School: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm High School: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm Daily work activities and expectations: - School Safety Monitors are required to wear a uniform. A shirt is provided by the district and black pants. You will also be required to wear an ID badge at all times.
- School Safety Monitors will be stationed at the main entrance of the building and will be required to use the Scholar Chip identity verification system and produce name badges for visitors as well as late passes to students who arrive after the start of the day.
- If there is an issue with an angry parent or community member, take down their information and remember to keep calm and de-escalate the situation. Encourage the individual to make an appointment.
- School Safety Monitors are required to perform routine building checks throughout the day which include:
- Checking the outside perimeter of the building –Report any strange activity or miscellaneous objects discovered on school property.
- Question persons on school premises who are not students or staff thereby establishing their identity and purpose of visit and advises them regarding rules for visiting the buildings, either directing them to the proper office or asking them to leave school property.
- Clearing of the hallways “sweeps” – Students found in the hallways after the class period has started should be escorted to class. This should be completed at the beginning of each period and routinely throughout the day.
- Remember to be VISIBLE and welcoming. Establishing positive relationships with staff, students and visitors is paramount.
- Keep radio conversations short and use appropriate language. If there is an emergency, radio the Principals office immediately.
- Always use appropriate language when speaking with students and staff and visitors.
- End of the day procedures – School Safety Monitors will be required to assist with dismissal of students. Keep hallways and doorways safe, make sure students are escorted to their correct busses and are picked up.
- If a student has missed the bus or has not been picked up by the parent, contact the main office immediately.
